Pittsburgh women arrested, charged with child endangerment, cruelty to animals

PITTSBURGH — After a loud argument, two women are behind bars in the Allegheny County Jail, and their newborn baby is in the care of Children and Youth Services.

Police say inside Katyyah Carter and Asia Johnson’s Hill District apartment building, the women were fighting about co-parenting their baby. According to court documents, a neighbor told police he was concerned for the infant, called 911 and said they had been fighting for at least 40 minutes, and he could hear glasses breaking and loud noises coming from the apartment.

Both women had injuries and police couldn’t tell who the aggressor was. They said the apartment was dangerous and dirty, and that “multiple kitchen knives were inside the bedroom and one of the knives was laying next to the infant,” according to court documents.

The further into the apartment police went, they found a puppy, broken glasses and dog feces locked inside one of the closets.

Police arrested both women for endangering the welfare of a child, cruelty to animals and assault. Police said they had been to this address multiple times in the past for domestic calls.

The newborn baby is safe with CYS and the puppy is in the care of animal control.
