Police: Man fled, crashed, ran; left 4-year-old daughter behind

Only Channel 11 News is learning about a search for a convicted felon who left his 4-year-old daughter to get away from police.

It started over shoplifting, but quickly escalated, leading to a chase and crash.

“I saw the little girl, I didn't know she was in there right away,” said Robin Scarding, who saw the crash just seconds after it happened.

Police say Anthony Terry, a convicted felon, crashed his car in Moon Township, then ran from police not knowing if his 4-year-old daughter was hurt.

“It was really pretty sad, I kept saying, ‘Are you OK, are you OK?’ She was just a little girl, ya know?” Scarding said.

“He has a history of running and violence,” said Chief Leo McCarthy, of Moon Township police.

Police said Terry, and his girlfriend Saniece August, were seen shoplifting at the Walmart in Moon, after re-selling stolen items at a North Fayette store.

Police said based on a description of the getaway car from Walmart security, Moon police spotted the pair and started to chase them.

"He sees it take off at an extremely high rate of speed," McCarthy said.

Officers lost sight of the car before they say Terry crashed head-on into a solid stone wall.

The car’s front end was totaled, but Terry's daughter and his girlfriend were not hurt.

Terry, who police consider a dangerous fugitive, has not been seen since he disappeared down a steep cliff leading down to the Ohio River.  The terrain was too dangerous for police to follow.

Neighbors are still talking about the little girl left by her dad.

“They said she wasn't in a child seat or anything, so that's just sad,” Scarding said.

Terry has ben incarcerated for other crimes including drugs, assaults and escape.

His daughter is OK and in the custody of her grandmother.
