PITTSBURGH — Pennant Station on the T’s Red Line is permanently closing Monday, Feb. 15.
According to a news release, the Port Authority is closing the station in the city’s Beechview neighborhood after a routine inspection found several issues. The steps leading to the 33-year-old station were in poor condition. A second inspection found further deterioration.
Repairs to the stairs and building a ramp to bring the station into compliance with ADA standards would cost $4 million to $6 million and take about two years to complete.
Port Authority officials said fewer than 10 people used the station each day prior to the pandemic.
The next-closest Red Line stations are Dawn and Westfield and are a 15-minute walk from Pennant Station.
