Butler Rep. introduces another impeachment resolution against Gov. Wolf

HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) and 29 co-sponsors are again calling for the impeachment of Gov. Tom Wolf.

The group has introduced legislation which included five articles of impeachment for “for misbehavior in office,” saying Wolf did not have authority to issue business lockdowns and stay-at-home orders; pointing to an “arbitrary and capricious” reopening process; failure to appropriately staff and administer unemployment compensation offices; failure to direct the Department of Health to develop and implement a comprehensive plan to protect residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities; and withholding critical information from the public, press and General Assembly regarding issues pertaining to the COVID-19 outbreak.

“On Friday, the governor issued the fourth renewal of his 90-day COVID-19 Disaster Emergency Declaration. Even though these proclamations are by definition temporary, the governor is once again abusing his emergency powers to wreak havoc on millions of Commonwealth citizens that have already been crushed by his unconstitutional business lockdown and stay-at-home orders,” Metcalfe said in a news release.

Metcalfe also accused Wolf of following New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s “lethal nursing home orders across Pennsylvania.”

“Regardless of the level of collaboration between Wolf and Cuomo, the majority of all COVID-19-related fatalities in this Commonwealth are directly connected to Wolf and his former health secretary’s unconscionable order to admit infected COVID-19 patients into Pennsylvania nursing homes and long-term care facilities,” he said. “While I applaud the eight Pennsylvania congressmen who recently sent a letter calling for a similar statewide investigation, waiting on Attorney General Josh Shapiro to actually do his job and investigate the governor’s catastrophic nursing home policies is a colossal waste of time.”

Metcalfe said the resolution is the “most practical option available to hold Tom Wolf fully accountable for his tyrannical abuse of emergency powers that have inflicted far more harm than the virus, decimated our economy and continue to violate so many of our fundamental rights.”

“No individual or regime is above the law. The time for Wolf’s impeachment and removal from office is long overdue,” he said.

Metcalfe previously introduced similar legislation in June.
