TSA officers catch two handguns at PIT within an hour

PITTSBURGH — Transportation Security Administration officers stopped two people with handguns at Pittsburgh International Airport within an hour of each other Tuesday.

A Pittsburgh resident showed up with a 9mm handgun with 17 bullets loaded in it along with a separate magazine fully loaded. Less than an hour later, an Oakdale man showed up with an unloaded 9mm gun.

In both instances, TSA officials said the guns were found on the X-ray machine’s monitor at the security checkpoint.

A typical first offense for carrying a loaded handgun into an airport’s security checkpoint is $4,100 and can be more than $13,000 depending on the circumstances.

TSA agents have caught 16 guns so far at the Pittsburgh airport this year.
