Woman accused of attacking teacher with brick granted house arrest

PITTSBURGH — The woman accused of following and then attacking her daughter’s teacher with a brick will be released on house arrest.

Daishonta Williams was granted house arrest by a judge during a hearing Monday morning.

“The three pages, single spaced, was full of contrition, full of, ‘I'm sorry,’ full of remorse,” said Blaine Jones, Williams’ defense attorney.

Investigators said Williams believed teacher Janice Watkins choked her 10-year-old daughter after an altercation over the girl's cellphone at Pittsburgh Public School’s King Pre-K-8.

That led to a conference at the school.

After the conference, police said Williams and her boyfriend, Vincent Beasley, followed Watkins as she left the school and approached her as she sat in a car at the West End Bridge.

That's when police say Williams threw a brick at her through the driver's side window and assaulted her.  Police said Watkins told them Beasley "pulled her head back by yanking her hair."

“I have to be strong for my family and kids and myself, so it’s a lot getting there. It’s overwhelming,” Watkins told Channel 11’s Courtney Brennan. She has not returned to work.

Williams is facing charges of aggravated assault, stalking, terroristic threats and reckless endangerment.

“She lost her cool,” Jones said. “She’s deeply sorry and she’s extremely thankful that the judge is offering her the opportunity to get out of jail.”

Beasley is facing charges including aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and stalking.
