Woman living along Beechwood Boulevard says crashes so common, she is a regular caller to city hotline

PITTSBURGH — Theresa Nightingale lives along Beechwood Boulevard right off the Parkway. She said speeding drivers have caused so many accidents in the area that she’s a regular caller to the city’s 311 hotline.

“We’ve lost multiple cars, multiple vehicles. Someone’s going to die here,” she said. “What happens is they smash each other from right here. That’s how I totaled my old car.”

Nightingale got so fed up that she started taking pictures of the wrecks in front of her home.

Channel 11′s Ryan Houston took her concerns to city leaders. Officials said they’ve narrowed the lanes, put in a walking trail and increased police patrols. Mayor Bill Peduto’s office said in a statement, “We started the design process and are looking at additional improvements to make that intersection and street safer. In the meantime, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police is doing increased enforcement at the location as speeding is a major factor.”
