AUSTIN, Texas — A Texas duplex was destroyed after it caught fire from fireworks, fire officials said.
Austin Fire Department responded to a fire around 11 p.m. and spent about an hour putting out the flames, KXAN reported.
“This is why fireworks are illegal in the City of Austin,” the agency said on social media. “Now two families have lost their cars and have significant damage to their homes.”
Surveillance video nearby showed fireworks landed on the duplex carport, sparking the flames.

The fire caused severe damage to vehicles, the carport and attic.
Fire officials said the seven residents who were displaced will be able to get their possessions.
Residents lighting fireworks in the city can be fined $568, fire officials said.
