An 88-year-old woman is recounting how playing dead saved her life.
Carrie Barnhill was sitting outside a family member’s house when a neighbor came out of his home and opened fire before setting his home ablaze.
She was with her sister Ronnie, a friend and the alleged gunman’s sister.
“I’m not fine, but I’m doing OK,” Barnhill told WISN about her recovery
She was hit several times during an incident.

“Being in the military, I fell to the floor and just played dead. I heard the first row of shots, and then I heard the second row of shots, and the third row of shots, then the shrapnel and bullets went into my feet,” Barnhill told WISN.
Despite the pain of the bullets hitting her, the Air Force veteran didn’t move, saying that it would have indicated she was still alive.
Shirley Mallory, Barnhill’s 82-year-old sister, was killed in the gunfire.
Mallory’s husband, Ivory Mallory, was also shot, hit in his lower extremities and spinal cord, WISN reported. He survived, as did the family friend who was not identified, WTMJ reported.
Police said they know who the alleged gunman is, but he has not been arrested, WITI reported.
