HOUSTON — Two men were rescued after a harrowing, fiery crash on a Houston interstate late Tuesday, authorities said.
The drivers collided at the Interstate 610 intersection with the Eastex Freeway, KTRK reported. A truck involved in the accident fell about 100 feet from an exit ramp and burst into flames when it landed at about 11 p.m. CDT, according to the television station.
Thanks to the quick response from Houston Police Department officers, the two people inside the truck were saved. The driver was doing all right, but police said the passenger in the truck was in critical condition with severe burns, according to KTRK.

“It’s surprising they lived,” Houston Police Department spokesperson Lt. R. Willkens told the television station. “Thank God they did.”
Traffic investigators said both men could have died, but the police officers’ fast response time was the difference.
”They were able to assist the driver and the passenger out of the vehicle,” Willkens told KTRK. “There were two adult males in their 20s that were inside the vehicle.”
Investigators are still trying to determine how the truck fell from the railing, the television station reported.
