Julian Figueroa, Mexican singer-actor, dead at 27

Julián Figueroa, a singer-songwriter and actor from Mexico who was the son of actress Maribel Guardia and singer Joan Sebastian, died Sunday. He was 27.

Figueroa’s mother announced his death in an Instagram post, Deadline reported. His death was also announced by ANDI Mexico, the country’s performers guild, on social media.

“The National Association of Performers communicates the death of member Julián Figueroa,” the guild wrote in a tweet translated into English by Deadline.

Guardia, 63, wrote that Figueroa was found unconscious on Sunday night in his Mexico City room, the Los Angeles Times. According to the talk show “Despierta América,” Guardia had been performing in a play, the Times reported. “When she returned home she realized that her son was dead, so she quickly notified the emergency units.”

“I’m sorry to have to report the departure of my beloved son Julián Figueroa, who unfortunately has left us,” Guardia wrote on Instagram. “They found him unconscious in his room while I was [working] in the theater. They called 911 and when the ambulance and police got here they found him lifeless, with no trail of violence.”

Figueroa most recently starred in the telenovela “Mi Camino es Amarte” and was in the process of recording his first solo album, People reported.

Figueroa’s father, who died in 2015 at the age of 64 from bone cancer, was a popular singer who won five Grammy Awards and seven Latin Grammys, according to KABC-TV.

Figueroa’s hits included ballads like “Yo Sería,” “Ay Amor” and “Volaré,” according to The Associated Press.

Guardia said that funeral services will be private and “only with those people closest to him who loved him the most,” the Times reported.
