HASKELL COUNTY, Kan. — The weather has been frigid in Kansas this week. It was so cold that a farmer found a hawk frozen and lying in his pasture.
Gene Davis, of Haskell County in the southwestern part of the state, found the bird on Monday while he was checking cattle on the family farm, KSNW reported.
Temperatures have dipped below freezing for four consecutive days.

Davis contacted a game warden after finding the bird in distress, KSNW reported. The warden gave Davis the go-ahead to wrap the hawk in a towel in an effort to melt the ice off the bird, according to the television station.
Davis held the bird by one of its talons while sitting in his truck. It took about 15 minutes for the ice to melt, KSNW reported.
Davis’ son, Sky Davis, took photographs of the rescue effort.
Family members said the hawk remained calm while it thawed out.
When the process was complete, Gene Davis let the bird go, KSNW reported. The hawk flew off before landing on top of a nearby utility pole, the television station reported.
