BUFFALO, N.Y. — A 14-year-old was stabbed and a security guard was shot in the leg outside a high school in western New York on Wednesday, authorities said.
Update 9:57 p.m. EST Feb. 9: A police source and school official late Wednesday told The Buffalo News that the 14-year-old student had been stabbed, not shot, outside McKinley High School in Buffalo. Police originally stated that both victims had been shot.
A City of Buffalo spokesperson on Wednesday night said the boy “was stabbed multiple times and not shot,” WGRZ-TV reported.

Original report: The shooting happened outside McKinley High School in Buffalo, police said.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. EST, WIVB-TV reported.

The Buffalo News, citing a police source, said that according to a preliminary investigation, the victims were a student and a security guard.

The male student, who was shot multiple times, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital and is undergoing surgery, the News reported. The student’s condition is unknown. The other person was a security guard, who was shot in the leg, WGRZ reported.
Oishei Children’s Hospital confirmed that one patient was transported to their hospital from the shooting, the television station reported.
The shooting took place while two groups of people got into a fight, police told the News.
During a news conference, Buffalo Police Department Deputy Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia said no one has been arrested.
Buffalo State College, which is located near the high school, sent out an alert asking the campus community to shelter in place.
University Police has received a report of an armed person near campus. Last seen near McKinley High School on Elmwood Ave heading towards 198. Immediately shelter in place.
