AUSTIN, Texas — Four people were hurt when gunfire erupted over the weekend in Austin, Texas, near venues for the South by Southwest festival, commonly known as SXSW.

According to The Associated Press and KTBC, the incident occurred about 2 a.m. CDT Sunday on East Sixth Street downtown. Austin police tweeted that officers were patrolling near Toulouse Bar “when they heard several gunshots coming from that area.” Four people who suffered minor injuries were rushed to the hospital, police said.
“During our preliminary investigation, we discovered the shooting started as a disturbance between two groups of people,” the department wrote. “Officers believe this was not a random act and there’s no danger to the public.”

Police added that “an individual related to the shooting” was in custody. No further information was immediately available.
According to the SXSW website, the weeklong festival, which ended Sunday, features events highlighting technology, film, music and more. The 2019 festival drew more than 417,000 people, KVUE reported.
