According to a Facebook post by North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad, the dog escaped from a yard and wound up near the water behind Grand Strand Airport on Monday at about 5:30 p.m. EST. The dog managed to walk down the cliff near the airport and became stuck on an embankment, WBMF-TV reported.

“The frightened dog would not come to rescuers,” the rescue squad wrote on Facebook. The owner was brought to the scene by boat and was reunited with her dog, WPDE-TV reported.

Units cleared the area and reunited the dog with its owner by 7 p.m. EST.

“That dog doesn’t realize how lucky it was to have Engineer Darcie Shotts working today as she was not going to clear this call until she knew that dog was safe and sound!” North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post. “She is our resident animal whisperer!”
