Verizon's 'hum' turns old cars into 'connected cars'

If you want to have a "connected" car, but your car is nearly as old as the internet, Verizon has a solution for you.

Their new service, called "hum," plugs into the on-board diagnostic port in any car built after 1996.

The device can gather engine diagnostic data and relay warnings and even estimated repair costs through a visor mounted speaker.

It also has built-in GPS that can track the vehicles and provide one-touch roadside or emergency assistance.

For your smartphone, there are apps to connect with the device and you can use the speaker through Bluetooth.

A two-year plan costs $15 month, including hardware.
