PITTSBURGH — A World War II-era tank-landing ship has docked in Pittsburgh so the public can tour the ship for a week.
Tours began Wednesday and run through Sept. 8 on the LST 325, which floated up the Ohio River and docked near Heinz Field on Tuesday.

The ship is the last operational LST -- or landing ship, tank -- still in its World War II configuration.
The ships were used in World War II, Korea and Vietnam and the ship docked in Pittsburgh was used during the D-Day invasion at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France on June 6, 1944.
The ships could each carry 20 Sherman tanks and had a ramp that enabled the vehicles to drive onto the beach during invasions.
The ship was built in Philadelphia but is now based in Evansville, Indiana.
