Walmart Vs. Target: Which Is Cheaper?

PITTSBURGH,None — A new report from a Chicago-based consumer group suggests that Walmart isn't always the best option when searching for a bargain.

Channel 11 consumer investigator Robin Taylor choose four things that consumers may purchase while shopping at both stores and compared the prices.

The first item Taylor purchased was tuna fish. She reported that the regular price for one can at Target costs $0.86. At Walmart, a can costs $1.28.

Next, Taylor purchased Softsoap hand soap from both retailers. She said both charge $1.47 for a bottle.

For a half-gallon of Dean's brand milk, Taylor said Target had the better price. Walmart charged $2.32 for the milk while Target charged $2.14.

Taylor also purchased Tide laundry detergent from the stores. At Target she paid $11.99, and at Walmart she paid $11.97.

According to a report released by Consumer Growth Partners, Target is cheaper when it comes to health and beauty items. The report stated that Walmart is cheaper when it comes to groceries and household goods.
