A Washington Township woman who was already awaiting sentencing for insurance fraud and controlled-substance charges is facing additional charges.
Investigators with the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office allege Virginia Baustert went “doctor shopping” in hopes of getting pain pills to feed her addiction.
Baustert is accused of visiting nearly two dozen doctors all over western Pennsylvania. The offices she visited were in Greensburg, Indiana and Pittsburgh, among other places.
In all, investigators said, she pocked nearly 2,800 pills, mostly Oxycodone.
Police said Baustert cost Highmark Insurance more than $156,000 over a three-year period.
Several doctor’s offices eventually refused to treat her because they found out she was getting pain-pill prescriptions from other doctors and pharmacies at the same time, investigators said.
