Former Pittsburgh Pirates player’s lawyer wants him out on bond

The new lawyer for Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Felipe Vazquez is asking a judge to set bond so his client can get out of jail.

The attorney told our news partners at TribLIVE.com that Vazquez is no longer a flight risk because he doesn’t have enough money to flee.

Vazquez has been in the Westmoreland County Jail since he was arrested in September on a sexual assault charge after investigators said he had improper sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl, formerly of Scottdale.

In November, prosecutors also charged Vazquez with possessing child pornography and communicating with a minor.

His trial is supposed to start next month.
