Steelers teammates select TJ Watt as MVP

PITTSBURGH — Steelers players have voted defensive juggernaut TJ Watt as the team’s most valuable player for the 2019 season.

The announcement comes just a week after Watt was named a Pro-Bowl selection.

So far this season Watt has been in the face of opposing quarterbacks, racking up 14 sacks so far with a shot at the team record of 16, which was set by James Harrison in 2008.

“He is having an amazing season. A defensive player of the year season,” said fellow outside linebacker Bud Dupree. “Hopefully he gets that award at the end of the year. It would be great for him and the whole unit.

Watt was also named the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Month for November.

Watt also has a team high 33 quarterback hits, which is first in the NFL; seven forced fumbles, which second in the NFL; and four fumble recoveries, which is tied for second in the NFL.
