Will Howard shines in long-awaited Steelers debut

For the first time since the 2025 College Football Playoff, Will Howard took to the field in a regulation football game.

It may not have been the real deal, but the lights were on at Acrisure Stadium as the Pittsburgh Steelers hosted the Green Bay Packers for their preseason opener, and considering that his entire rookie season consisted of practice reps, it was a big stage for Howard.

The Steelers’ sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft didn’t come up small under the lights. If anything, he played some of the best ball of the season on Thursday night, deftly navigating a porous-at-times offensive line, showing pocket presence and off-platform throwing ability that haven’t been a part of the repertoire during Steelers training camp at St. Vincent College.
