PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins have hired former NHL goaltender Ron Hextall as the team’s next general manager, replacing Jim Rutherford who resigned a few weeks ago.
Hextall played 13 seasons in the NHL for the Philadelphia Flyers, Quebec Nordiques, and New York Islanders.
Since retiring from hockey, Hextall has held several front office jobs for the Los Angeles Kings and the Flyers. He won a Stanley Cup as the assistant general manager for the Los Angeles Kings. The next season, he took the same position in the Flyers organization and a year later was general manager, a position he held for four and a half years.
Penguins Assistant General Manager Patrik Allvin served as interim general manager while the Penguins searched for Rutherford’s replacement.
