PITTSBURGH — Evgeni Malkin was named the Pittsburgh Penguins 2019-20 team MVP after a vote by the players.
Despite the team’s disappointing early exit from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Malkin had one of his better seasons. The 34-year-old alternate captain tallied 74 points in 55 games. He missed 14 of the team’s 69 games due to injury, but still managed to finish 14th in the NHL in scoring. He averaged 1.35 points-per-game which was tied for sixth-best.
Evgeni Malkin has been named team MVP for the fifth time in his career. Only hall-of-fame owner Mario Lemieux (12) and team captain Sidney Crosby (8) have won the award more than Malkin. pic.twitter.com/X9SdkZeW1p

Sidney Crosby missed 28 games during the regular season due to a core muscle surgery, and during that time, Malkin was a force on the ice. From Nov. 12 to Jan. 12, Malkin had a team-best 38 points in the 26 game span, helping the Penguins to an 18-6-4 record.
Malkin put up his seventh-straight 20-goal season and this season marked the 20th time in his career he’s achieved that mark. It ties Sidney Crosby and Mario Lemieux for the most 20-goal seasons in franchise history. Only Lemieux has more 70-point seasons (12) than Malkin (11).
Among the season’s milestones for Malkin was scoring his 400th goal on Dec. 17 at Calgary, in which he became the fourth Penguin and 99th player in NHL history to do so.
