Man arrested 2 weeks after escaping police custody in Westmoreland County

FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man who escaped police custody in Fairfield Township in August was arrested Sunday night in Cambria County, Pennsylvania State Police said Monday.

Michael Boring, 44, of Seward, was wanted on charges of aggravated assault, escape, resisting arrest and theft by unlawful taking.

Boring escaped from police custody on Aug. 29. Police said he claimed he was sick, and when he was let out of the vehicle he ran off. Boring stole a Ford F-250 dual wheeled truck from a nearby farm, authorities said.

About 7:30 p.m. Sunday, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Cambria County Sheriff’s Office notified state police in Ebensburg of a possible location where Boring might be.

Boring was found and arrested at Martin General Store in Cambria Township, police said. The Cambria Township Police Department was assisted by Ebensburg Patrol Unit members and the Fugitive Task Force.

Boring was found with a 36-year-old woman who will be charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution.
