PITTSBURGH — It seemed all but certain, however now it was made official that Max Browne is the starting quarterback for the Pitt Panthers.
Pat Narduzzi made the announcement after practice today, saying Browne beat out Ben DiNucci in a highly contested quarterback battle throughout camp.
Browne follows in the footsteps of Nate Peterman, who transferred in last year and threw for nearly 3,000 yards and 27 touchdowns in his only season with the Panthers.

The 6-foot-5 Browne began his collegiate career at the University of Southern California where he sat for most of his first three years until he won the starting job last August, named team captain only to be benched after three games, two of which were losses that came to Alabama and Stanford.
Browne completed 69 of 112 passes for 650 yards, 2 TD's and 2 INT's in nine games before asking for his release.
Browne will have quite the challenge right out of the gate with Pitt this season as the Panthers play two top ten teams in their non-conference schedule.
Pitt will travel to State College, Pa. and face the 6th ranked Penn State on September 9th and then host the 10th ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys the very next week at Heinz Field.
