Heat Advisory issued for majority of region as hottest weather of the year sinks in

PITTSBURGH — The heat index could climb to dangerous levels Sunday, so plan ahead before you head outdoors.

Temperatures will climb into the lower-90s, and an increase in humidity will push heat index values near 100 degrees – increasing the risk for heat-related illness.

A Heat Advisory will be in effect from noon until 6 p.m. Sunday for the following counties: Armstrong, Westmoreland, Greene, Washington, Butler, Fayette, Allegheny, Beaver and Lawrence.

Stay hydrated and try to stay in an air-conditioned room if possible. If you are outdoors, try to stay out of the sun and limit your time to early morning or evening – when it will be cooler.

Check on neighbors who might have trouble keeping their homes cool and keep an eye on pets. Never leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles.

Hot weather sticks around through early next week, with a few scattered showers or storms possible from time to time.
