Wind Advisory issued for viewing area with gusts up to 50 miles per hour

PITTSBURGH — The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Allegheny and Washington counties in effect until 5:45 p.m. That warning is no longer in effect, but most of the viewing area will be under a wind advisory until Sunday.

A line of heavy rain and wind is moving into the area this evening. Have your rain gear if you're heading out and be prepared to seek shelter in the event of a severe weather warning.

Damaging wind gusts will be the primary severe weather threat Saturday night.

A Wind Advisory will be in effect from 11 p.m. tonight until 1 p.m. Sunday due to the threat of wind gusts up to 50 mph.

Higher gusts up to 55 mph are possible in the ridges and mountains. Drive with caution.

A record high temperature was broken in Pittsburgh on Saturday with 70 degrees. The old record was 68 set back in 1890.

Temperatures will be near 50 degrees by sunrise Sunday and continue to fall through the day as colder air works its way in. It will stay windy in the morning, with gusts up to 40 mph before tapering off after the lunch hour.
