Some pharmacies running low on children’s Tylenol due to uptick in illness

PITTSBURGH — With so many kids getting sick right now, some pharmacies are running low on children’s Tylenol and it’s causing a lot of concern for many families.

”You hate to see your kids sick and not knowing what it is and not getting your hands on medicine, that’s just something I didn’t think I would have to worry about as a mom,” said Lindsay Wilcox of Wexford.

Wilcox has four kids and is one of many parents worried about the ongoing shortage for children’s Tylenol.

Pharmacies like Hilltop Pharmacy in Allentown have been in short supply for months. They keep most of their supply behind the counter for kids who really need it.

”Just seems to be like there’s an overall shortage. Every time we get it in, it’s flying off the shelves,” said Alex Rothey of Hilltop Pharmacy. “It’s probably caused by the rise in the flu, people having some cold symptoms and seeing family and friends for the first time in a while.”

The pharmacist said Tylenol is typically an easy go to solution, so it’s been selling fast and becoming harder to find.

If you can’t find children’s Tylenol, pharmacists we spoke with gave suggestions for a solution.

”If you can’t find Tylenol, you can always use children’s Motrin or Ibuprofen if there’s no allergy or call your doctor and see if there’s anything else they can do,” said Rothey.

Pharmacists recommend parents call their pharmacy ahead of time to make sure they have children’s Tylenol in stock.
