Grand Opening Day

While Light Up Night has been moved from its traditional Friday, that doesn’t mean there won’t still be things to do on Nov. 19, Grand Opening Day. The 10th anniversary of the Holiday Market will kick off Friday. There will also be a Merry Karaoke Team Tournament, the world’s largest pickle ornament, the opening of the Rink at PPG Place, tree lightings at the Allegheny County Courthouse and PPG Place, and more.

Light Up Night

Saturday’s main Light Up Night event will be highlighted by tree lightings at the City-County Building and at Stanwix Street and Penn Avenue (the Highmark Christmas Tree), both featuring Zambelli rooftop fireworks. There will be a spectacular fireworks finale from Zambelli at 9:30 p.m. at the Allegheny Overlook on Ft. Duquesne Boulevard.

Live musical performance will come from the American Authors, local indie band Donora and Lyndsey Smith & Steeltown Horns, Mr. Smalls All-Star Beatles Tribute, Pittsburgh icon Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers, blues icon Miss Freddye, as well as The Daniel May Trio with Dwayne Dolphin and George Heid III with special guest vocalists. There will also be unique performances from winners of the Merry Karaoke Team Tournament.

Meanwhile, the Highmark Holiday Block Party will give people opportunities to win prizes, warm up and celebrate the holiday in unique, “blue” ways.

Also, keep an eye out for holiday ice carvings, and stop by Heinz Hall for The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s free 30-minute concerts of holiday classics.
