Thunderbolt! The iconic Kennywood ride won our poll for best coaster

PITTSBURGH — It’s summertime - and typically that means spending your days at the pool, in our area’s parks, or enjoying the rides and slides at Idlewild, Sandcastle or Kennywood.

Things are different in 2020, but we’re still thinking about our favorite summertime fun spots.

For National Roller Coaster Day, which is Sunday, August 16, we wanted to know your favorite Kennywood coaster.

Did you know that Pennsylvania is home to the oldest roller coaster?

Leap the Dips in Altoona, Pennsylvania has the honor and distinction of being the oldest roller coaster that’s still operating. The Lakemont Park wooden coaster was built in 1902. It’s only 41 feet tall and goes about 10 miles an hour.
