‘Billboard’ ROUNDUP: Nominees, performers, Pittsburgh touch and ‘powerful’ show open Kelly Clarkson is ‘in love with’

The biggest night in music is a go! The Billboard Music Awards 2020 air Wednesday at 8 p.m. on Channel 11 as the show embodies a “new normal.”

In an interview with host three-time host Kelly Clarkson, she mentions an emotional show open, saying: “It’s going to be probably my favorite opening. I’m very in love with what we are doing.”

The BBMAs had originally been slated for April 29 but were postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. In an interview with Clarkson, she said they are really trying to give viewers the same type of experience they are familiar with while making sure everyone stays safe.

So what will we see Wednesday night?

The three-hour music spectacular, hosted by pop star Clarkson, will feature the year’s hottest musical acts, music collaborations and plenty of buzzworthy moments that will have the world talking.

The awards will have a little Pittsburgh shining through too, as country music duo Dan + Shay, featuring Wexford native Dan Smyers, are up for a total of four awards including:

Top Duo/Group

Top Country Artist

Top Country Duo/Group

Top Country Song

Last year was the duo’s first time attending the BBMAs in which they took home the award for Top Country Duo/ Group. They were up for six awards total.

And we obviously have to talk performances!

2020 Billboard Music Awards performers include Alicia Keys, Kane Brown, Bad Bunny, BTS, Luke Combs, Doja Cat, En Vogue, Khalid, Demi Lovato, Sia, Post Malone, SAINt JHN and Swae Lee.

Garth Brooks will also be taking the stage as he receives this year’s elite ICON Award, following in the footsteps of only eight other artists, including Mariah CareyJanet JacksonCher, and Celine Dion.

Brooks is the No. 1 selling solo artist in U.S. history and has an astonishing 17 Billboard Music Awards, 23 ACM Awards and 12 AMA Awards.

That’s not all though. In addition to that, more performances have been announced leading up to the show.

The international sensation BTS is set to perform, and Brandy will mark her BBMA performance debut with a rendition of her hit “Borderline” as well as  “Almost Doesn’t Count” and  “No Tomorrow” featuring Ty Dolla $ign.
