Investigators are determining if there is a link between two fires that destroyed two homes Thursday night in Homestead.
Both houses were vacant and situated just a few feet apart from one another. The first fire was spotted at a house on East 14th Avenue, then, minutes later and close by, another fire started at a home on Plum Way.
A spokesperson with Allegheny County Emergency Services said it’s unclear if the two fires are related, or if an arsonist set them. Friday, a deputy fire marshal was investigating at the scene.
Marcy Suttles, who lives next to the home on 14th Avenue, said she was panicking and worried that her home would catch fire next.
“It makes you think, ‘Is there arson in our neighborhood, or what’s going on?’ I would like to know," she said.
Suttles left during the fire and said she was afraid of what she’d find when she came back.
“I’m amazed I don’t have any fire damage,” Suttles said. “I just can’t believe that this happened right here and the house is still standing.”
Because only a few feet separate the two houses that were on fire, the fire marshal is not ruling out any causes.
Suttles said both houses have been empty for the last several months, and both were destroyed in by the flames.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
