2 killed, others taken to hospital after crash in Somerset County

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. — Two people were killed Thursday night in a crash in Shade Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The accident happened shortly before 7 p.m. on Route 30 when the driver of a Honda Civic lost control on the wet roadway and crossed the centerline, police said. The passenger side of the car struck the front of an oncoming vehicle before the car went off the roadway.

The driver of the Civic, 25-year-old Melanie Wetzel, of Sterling, Virginia, and her passenger, who has not been identified, were killed.

Police said the 16-year-old driver of the second vehicle was taken to Conemaugh Hospital, as were his 48- and 17-year-old passengers. All three are from Export.
