GREENSBURG, Pa.,None — Police said three special needs students were injured after a school bus collided head-on with a pickup truck in Greensburg.
RAW VIDEO: School Bus Crash Scene
The First Student school bus collided with the truck and then struck a tree Tuesday at the intersection of Harvey Avenue and Northmont Street shortly after 8 a.m.
Police said the driver of the pickup truck, Susan Lucas, 19, swerved to avoid a stopped car, crossed over the yellow line and struck the bus head-on.
"She applied her brakes and was starting she lid into the other lane of traffic because of water," said Greensburg Police Captain George Seranko.
One of the students were flown to Children's Hospital, authorities said. The other two were taken to another hospital, treated and released. The names of the victims have not been released. All three were students at the Clairview School.
"I did get to see two out of the three students and from what I know at this point, all are fine," said Principal Jeff Coover.
The driver of the bus and pickup truck were also hospitalized.
"They had to use the Jaws of Life to get the bus driver extracted from the vehicle," said witness Robin Savage.
The speed limit on the road is 35 mph, but neighbors said drivers are often speeding, and accidents are very common.
"We don't even let our son play on the side of the house," said Savage. "We put a fence up because of that."
Police have not said if speed was a factor in the bus crash.
