4 foot giant shrimp climbs out of its shell

JAPAN — When a crustacean grows a new exoskeleton, it must break out of its old one.  The process is called molting. For giant shrimp, also known as the Japanese Spiny Lobster, it happens only once or twice a year and is rarely seen.

An aquarium in western Japan was able to catch the event on video. The shrimp can be seen struggling to break free from its old shell.  Failing to get out could kill the shrimp.  Fortunately this one was able to do it.  This one is particularly giant, measuring more than four feet long.  Giant shrimp are native to the western Pacific Ocean and are prized for their tasty-- and plentiful-- meat.
