5-Star Mount Washington Restaurant Hopes To Reopen Thursday After Fire

PITTSBURGH,None — Cleanup of Pittsburgh's five-star LeMont Restaurant on Mount Washington from a fire is taking longer than expected.

The owner said he is hoping the restaurant will reopen on Thursday. Initially, he had planned to reopen Wednesday.

Allegheny County fire marshals said the blaze was reported just before midnight Sunday, though initial reports are an electrical problem may have been the cause. Nobody was in the restaurant, which had closed earlier that night and there were no reports of firefighters injured.

Bill Laughlin, banquet manager, said the fire could have been a lot worse.

"It could've been the whole building," he said. "I saw it on the news this morning at 6:30. I woke up to that."

Channel 11 News found water damage and melted glass racks at the restaurant Monday morning.

The fire started in a motor in one of the coolers, Laughlin said. The fire alarm set off the sprinklers, saving the restaurant and containing the fire to the kitchen.

"It's a busy time of year for us," he said. "There are a lot of things going on. I'm going to go call people now for today and tomorrow. We'll be up and running by Wednesday."

He said there were no major events planned at the restaurant on Monday and Tuesday. A political event, scheduled for Monday night, has been postponed by one week.

No injuries were reported.
