Allegheny County Criminal Judge Charged With DUI

MT. LEBANON, Pa.,None — Mount Lebanon police said an Allegheny County criminal judge was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Investigators said Judge Randal Todd was arrested after causing an accident in Mount Lebanon on Dec. 16.

Police said the accident happened on Shady Drive West.

Todd has hired criminal defense attorney Bob DelGrego. DelGrego told Channel 11's Alan Jennings that Todd could lose his driver's license.

"For a short while, 30, 60 or 90 days depending on the blood alcohol content and the severity of the charges," DelGrego said.

Mount Lebanon police said an officer stopped Todd's sport utility vehicle after he noticed it had major front-end damage. An officer said he also witnessed Todd drive backward into a car.

According to the criminal complaint, Todd "looked confused and smelled of alcohol. The officer had to reach in the vehicle, turn it off and remove the keys."

Officer Matthew Mankamyer said he asked Todd if he had been drinking, to which he responded, "I am just a little drunk."

The criminal complaint also stated that Todd failed two field sobriety tests. Todd was then transported to St. Clair Hospital for a blood test.

Jeffery Manning, the administrative judge of common pleas released a statement on Thursday saying, "Judge Todd is a very talented and fair judge who is serving ably and well in the criminal division. Judge Todd has agreed to a temporary assignment hearing civil cases until this matter is adjudicated.

DelGrego said if Todd is convicted of DUI he will likely be classified as a first-time offender.

"There is nothing in these charges or the event which would preclude him from going into the first-time offender program," said DelGrego.
