Bill to rename Butler County VA health care facility expected to have unanimous support

BUTLER COUNTY, Pa. — A bill of legislation to rename the Department of Veteran Affairs Health Care Center in Center Township is expected to have unanimous support.

The bill would change the name to the “Abie Abraham Veteran Affairs Clinic,” named after the decorated World War II veteran and Bataan Death March survivor.

Abraham stayed overseas after the war to help identify and recover those who did not survive the march. When he came back to Pennsylvania, Abraham spent a decade volunteering in the VA health care system in Butler County.

Representative Mike Kelly spoke in support of his legislation Monday, and the bill is expected to have unanimous support.

Abraham wrote two books about his time as a prisoner of war.

He died in Butler in 2012.
