LIGONIER, Pa. — A 13-year-old boy is facing charges after police said he broke into a Westmoreland county landmark Thursday night, stole money and set it on fire.
No one was hurt in the fire at Ligonier Beach on Route 30 in Ligonier Township.
Police said the boy rode his bicycle to the business shortly before 7 p.m., stole money from the cash register, opened the beer taps at the bar and set fire to the bathhouse and snack bar. He was caught in the act by an employee.
Patio furniture was destroyed and a storage area sustained smoke damage. The owner told Channel 11 News that about $700 worth of beer was lost.
Police recovered $106 that was taken from the cash register.
The boy faces charges of arson, trespassing and burglary.
The owner told Channel 11 that she was not sure whether the restaurant would open Friday.
Ligonier Beach opened as Ligonier Valley Bathing Beach in 1925. It includes an indoor bar and dining room, an outside deck and patio with a pool-facing bar, and a snack bar.
