PITTSBURGH — Despite the efforts of Pittsburgh’s biggest bank, PNC Financial Services Group Inc., to help its users avoid overdraft fees, residents in the Pittsburgh metro are still paying up when they overdraw.
That’s according to a recent survey and study released by New York City-based consumer financial company Bankrate. The survey, which looked at both interest checking accounts and noninterest checking accounts at the 10 biggest banks in each of the 25 included metros, found that while some banks are reducing or eliminating overdraft fees, 96% of accounts that were surveyed are still charged. The survey found 87% of accounts are still charged non-sufficient funds fees, which differ slightly from overdraft fees.
