Software vendor to Pittsburgh bank hacked, client info exposed

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh’s 13th-largest bank has informed customers that a software vendor it uses experienced a cyber attack.

NexTier Bank said it was notified on Nov. 18 by American Bank Systems, a vendor that provides software services to banks across the country, that it had experienced a cyber attack in which information of ABS’ bank customers, including NexTier, was exposed.

NexTier began sending letters to its clients on Dec. 7, informing them of the breach.

“Based on what we have learned thus far, the affected information included name and Social Security number or individual taxpayer identification number and potentially included address, date of birth, account number and loan information for certain customers,” Clem Rosenberger, NexTier president and CEO, said in the letter, which was obtained by the Business Times.
