Whole Foods Market schedules opening of new larger store at Liberty East

PITTSBURGH — Whole Foods Market is ready to make its move in East Liberty official.

The grocer, which has operated a 32,000-square-foot store at its current location along Centre Avenue for nearly 20 years, is scheduled to open its new 54,677-square-foot store at 5700 Penn Ave. in the new Liberty East mixed-use development on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 8:00 a.m.

It’s an opening delayed about a year amid the pandemic that comes after the busy grocery store was first named as a newcomer to the more than 250,000-square-foot development, with Whole Foods one of two tenants named for the project so far, the other being Duolingo (NASDAQ: DUOL).

According to an announcement, the new store is expected to include an assortment of products from 120 Pennsylvania suppliers, along with an expanded variety in categories of food and other merchandise throughout the store.
