PPG Place, EQT Plaza will soon go up for sale

PITTSBURGH — The iconic, glass crown jewel of Pittsburgh is going up for sale, according to our partners at the Pittsburgh Business Times. PPG Place and EQT Plaza, owned by North Carolina-based Highwoods Properties, will be sold to help fund new ventures for the property group in Dallas, according to the Business Times.

“It’s what everybody pictures in and outside of Pittsburgh,” Jacob Henninger tells Channel 11. “You see the spires on top.”

“It’s the best building in the skyline for sure,” Michael Lancaster adds.

PPG Place is home to restaurants, a high-end steakhouse and several major corporations. It’s also a winter wonderland with the ice rink and the venue for Light up Night, which draws families from near and far.

Pittsburghers weary after the Heinz Field announcement say they just want some consistency.

“As long as they don’t change it to a name like ‘Acrisure,’ I’m good with that!” Henninger jokes.

The people we talked to say pride in Pittsburgh runs deep, and they’d like to see an investment in growth.

“Change is good,” Lancaster said. “I think there’s a lot of people who don’t like that. At the same time, if things are growing, that’s great.”

“You don’t want to see anyone leave,” Henninger adds. “I hope the community in Market Square kind of stays the same or grows. Hopefully, we get a good, new tenant.”
