CALIFORNIA, Pa.,None — A California University of Pennsylvania football player's apartment caught fire on Friday while he attended the National Football League's draft.
Firefighters said they were quickly able to contain the fire at a building where Cal U quarterback Josh Portis and his mother live.
A neighbor said he wasn't sure if anyone was home when he saw the flames, and he quickly jumped into action.
"We starting talking to the neighbor and then we went in and kicked the door in. I started yelling for them, but there was no answer," said Ralph Lincavage.
Portis' teammates told Channel 11's Dave Bondy that they were trying to contact Portis to let him know about the fire.
"We are good friends; we know each other. You got to look out for people," Lincavage said.
Firefighters said the fire started in a bedroom in Portis' apartment.
Firefighters said no one was hurt.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
