ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Pa. — One lane of a local road is shut down because a retaining wall is crumbling.
People who live along Glenfield Road on the border between Aleppo and Sewickley told Channel 11 they’re pretty angry. They said the issue is a danger to people who live near and drive through the tight roadway.

“This wall has been falling in for 40 years and they will leave the road closed or do this type of situation and then in a few years they’ll come back and fix it. But it leaves all of us residents who live here either stranded or annoyed,” Jerri, who did not want to give a last name, said.
Director Public Works Stephen G. Shanley sent a statement to Channel 11:
“Public Works was aware that the wall next to the northbound lane on the 500 block of Glenfield Road had been deteriorating, and we have been continually monitoring its condition. With 51 landslides and wall issues currently near county roads, deciding which areas to tackle first can be difficult, and we primarily make those decisions based on public safety and traffic. Prior to yesterday, the wall on the 500 block of Glenfield Road posed no threat to the stability of the road. When the wall unexpectedly collapsed yesterday, we immediately closed the lane next to it and began taking the steps necessary to get the wall repaired as quickly as possible. We understand that traffic restrictions such as this one can be huge inconvenience to residents, and we very much appreciate their patience and understanding as we work get the closed lane reopened as quickly as possible.”
