Feds Indict Jeannette Postman In Fake Mugging

JEANNETTE, Pa.,None — A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh has charged a postal carrier with making false statements to investigators and worker's compensation fraud for allegedly pretending he was mugged as he arrived at work.

The indictment returned Wednesday said Jeffrey Gogets, 50, of Hempfield Township, received 32 days' pay for time he was off work. U.S. Postal Inspectors investigated after local police determined Gogets faked the attack at the Jeannette post office by breaking a glass bottle and then banging his head against a door on April 18.

Gogets didn't immediately return calls to phone numbers listed in his name.

Jeannette police Chief Brad Shepler has said Gogets told authorities he faked the attack because he needed "a break from life."

Gogets allegedly told co-workers he didn't remember the attack and lost $150 in his wallet.
