PITTSBURGH — Firefighters worked early Monday morning to extinguish a blaze at a building attached to a local hospital.
Officials said they were able to stop the flames from spreading to UPMC Mercy Hospital.
The fire, which reached four alarms, started on a fifth floor of the office building attached to the hospital, officials said.
“It’s part of the hospital facilities. No one was harmed in the fire. It went to a four alarm blaze,” Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Sonya Toler said.
Severe damage was reported on both the fifth and fourth floors.
“There is a lot of damage on the fifth floor and water damage to the floors below,” Toler said.
According to Toler, an electrical problem caused the fire. No injuries were reported.
A UPMC spokesperson told Channel 11 News that despite the fire, business operations continue as normal.
