PITTSBURGH — This weekend, the Heinz History Center will be the host to dozens of vintage jeeps, such as the 1940s Bantams, Willys-Overlands and more.
The Jeeps will be a part of the museum’s new “We Can Do It! WWII” exhibition. The exhibit is intended to educate guests about Western Pennsylvania’s roots in relation to the war, and the iconic vehicle.
“The exhibit has everything from home front stories to war front stories,” said Andy Masich, president and CEO of Heinz History Center. “We even have the first ever Jeep here from the Smithsonian. It was one of the prototypes.”
The greater WWII exhibit delves into the region’s impact on the home, industrial and battle fronts during the World War II. Nearly 300 rare artifacts will accompany the Jeeps in the exhibit as the nation recognizes the 75th anniversary of the start of WWII.
The exhibit can be seen now at the Heinz History Center. On Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the museum's Jeep Cruise will feature over 50 vintage jeeps for visitors. For more information about the exhibit, visit their website.
