JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two people were killed in a single-vehicle accident Friday that shut down Interstate 79 in Jackson Township, Butler County, police said.
The accident occurred in the northbound lanes of Interstate 79, forcing traffic to be detoured for several hours at mile marker 87.6. The interstate reopened around 1 p.m.
The medical examiner identified the victims as Russell Reed, 63, and Amy Horn, 47, both of Johnstown.
Authorities said the pair’s vehicle was traveling northbound on Interstate 79 when it began to roll multiple times for an unknown reason.
Police said neither victim was wearing a seat belt and both were ejected from their vehicle.
An investigation continues into the cause of the crash.
